Homeless Provision for Newbury – Update!

Article posted on 4 October 2018 Leave a Comment

We have received the following information from West Berkshire Homeless regarding plans to improve facilities for winter 2018:

(a) Two Saints has employed a second outreach worker for the winter period.  WBH is working with them in finding both work and accommodation.

(b) Two Saints will have a twenty-bed (possibly up to thirty) facility from 7.30pm to 9.30am each day from November through to March.  Breakfast may also be provided.  They are also going to work with Loose Ends and Eight Bells in particular, to provide day time facilities during the same period but will need extra volunteers to assist in providing refreshments and socialising with the clients.

(c) In addition, WBH has been asked to provide an overflow facility on a ‘need to’ basis.   Venue to be finalised – volunteers will need to be on standby to staff this during the evening/night.

(d) Within the next month the possibility of another housing charity moving into Newbury and offering rough sleepers’ accommodation via the Council may also come to fruition.

If you would be happy to be on a standby list of helpers for the emergency overflow shelter on set dates as per last year, or for assisting at Two Saints in the daytime, please send an email mark either ‘daytime cover’ or ’emergency overflow’ or ‘both’ to erica.gassor@gmail.com and WBH will collate a list and provide further information.
